WEEK TWO
Week two has been an interesting one. At the beginning of the week while in a cafe I got so desperate for a sugar hit that I almost caved. I ran past the counter food, out the door and to the health food store next door where I devoured a carob bar. I did read the ingredients first and although it assured me it was sugar free I still felt incredibly disappointed in myself and swore it wouldn't happen again. Then came the night sweats. I can only imagine that it was my body detoxing, but for two nights in a row I woke up drenched in the most hideous smelling sweat, I mean it smelled toxic! I had to change my t shirt in the middle of the night, as well as the sheets. Nic even asked me if I had been sick and not told him because it seemed like I had broken a fever. Poor guy! Thinking back now it was after this that I began to notice some changes. Firstly that intense afternoon tiredness (at which point I would normally be reaching for my sugar kick) wasn't nearly as bad anymore, and secondly my cravings were not only starting to wane but I was actually turned off by sugar. At a family birthday party on the weekend there was a whole table laden with cakes and little tarts, and I was hardly tempted. I wasn't clawing at the table or drooling from a distance. The final and most incredible change that I noticed is that I had no period cramps this month! I honestly couldn't tell you if the two are related or not but I don't know what else it could be. We'll see if it happens again next month or was just a once off. I want to minimise my sugar intake permanently but I also need to ramp up my fats because I'm noticing my jeans getting a bit baggy, I know for a lot of people that what be a welcome bonus but I've always struggled to keep the weight ON. Anyway it's still early days so we'll see how we go.
This weeks changes:
- Hideous night sweats
- Sugar cravings lessening
- Alcohol cravings lessening
- Afternoon tiredness less extreme
- No period cramps
- Suspected weight loss (I don't actually weigh myself).
- Raw, unsalted cashews. I'm eating these like crazy! In the first weeks after having Ayana I would eat a good kilo of these a week, and now I feel like I'm doing the same.
- Toasted coconut chips. I did make my own a while back but our oven is about to give up its ghost so I've been buying them again. I keep them in the car and practically eat them constantly while I'm driving! They are SO delicious.
- Hummus. I've been making extra batches and keeping it in the freezer.
- Cheese biscuits. My great grandmothers recipe. So ridiculously laden with cheese and butter but oh so good.
xx
P.S The photo above is of a sugar free banana loaf I baked yesterday. Aside from the banana I simply left out the cup of sugar. I won't lie, it wasn't the best thing I've ever eaten but it was nice to feel like I was getting a little treat.
I've definitely had those detox night sweats before, they are something else! Good luck with the no-sugar!
